The most expensive contemporary chinese painting

'Execution' was sold last week in an auction in London for 4.2 million euros.
Yue Minjun, one of the leading figure in chinese contenporary art, painted it in 1995 explicitly refering to another execution painting by Manet (which himself was referring to Goya!), but transposed the scene on tiananmen square.

All characters on the painting have the same laughing face (a self portrait of the artist) and those that are suppose to shoot don't hold any gun.

Nothing happened. Brilliant

It never got exposed in any public exhibition. Sometimes breaking records is a nice way to gain visibility.
